Information

3 x Neumann KH 120 A, bundled with 2 x KH 80 DSP, 2 x KH 805 Subwoofers and an SPL SMC.

The KH 120 an active studio monitor designed for use as a near-field loudspeaker or as a rear loudspeaker in larger multi-channel systems.

The KH 120 A represents the latest in acoustic and electronic simulation and measurement technologies to ensure the most accurate sound reproduction possible. It has a Mathematically Modeled Dispersion waveguide (MMD (TM), flexible acoustical controls, analog class-AB amplifiers, a large headroom analog input and an extensive mounting hardware range. All of this provides the user with the maximum versatility over a wide variety of acoustic conditions, source equipment, and physical locations.

The KH 120 is perfect for tracking, mixing and mastering in music, broadcast, project and post-production studios.

The KH 80 DSP is a 2-way active studio monitor well suited for near-field monitoring and multichannel setups in music studios, broadcast centers, home studios & audio applications.

The KH 80 DSP features a DSP engine with network control, a Mathematically Modeled Dispersion Waveguide (MMD), an analogue input and an extensive range of mounting hardware. This allows the loudspeaker to be used in diverse acoustical conditions, with any source equipment and in a wide variety of physical locations. The KH 80 represents the latest in acoustic and electronic simulation and measurement technologies to ensure the most accurate sound reproduction possible.

The KH 80 DSP is designed for use as a near-field monitor, as a front loudspeaker in small multi-channel systems, or as a rear loudspeaker in a compact multi-channel systems. It can be used in project and music studios, broadcast centers, OB vans, and post production studios for tracking, mixing, and mastering. It is also well suited for use in domestic environments.

The Neumann KH 805 subwoofer is designed to complement the extensive range of monitors and is designed to be used in music, broadcast and post production studios.

Based on the excellent acoustical performance of the KH 810, the KH 805 is the optimal choice to be used in stereo applications, for example in combination with the KH 120 or KH 310.

The KH 805 has a unique 2.1/0.1 Bass manager which enables it to be used in many different applications. There are four routing modes to ensure maximum flexibility. Fourth order crossovers and adaptable acoustical controls allow for seamless system integration, and the bass management function can be remotely controlled.

The KH 805 subwoofer is designed to complement our extensive range of monitors, and can be used in music, broadcast, and post production studios for tracking, mixing, and mastering.

Uses:
Bass extension for loudspeakers down to 18 Hz
Increasing the maximum SPL of loudspeakers by up to 8 dB
Decreasing harmonic and intermodulation distortion of loudspeakers
Reproducing the LFE channel
Reproducing the "Sub" signal of a bass managed multichannel source
Making a Plane Wave Bass Array system
Working as an extension for KH 810, KH 870 and KH 805 subwoofer systems

The SMC - Surround Monitor Controller is a one-point analog volume control and switching matrix for system-independent 5.1 surround and stereo monitoring for any audio application.

The advantages of the SMC become especially apparent in combination with modern audio and video production tools such as ProTools, Nuendo, Cubase, Logic, Deck etc.

One of the SMC's biggest advantages is the possibility to manage several input sources, i. e. for comparing and monitoring SACD or DVD material.

Designed to provide only the necessary functions with excellent audio quality, the SMC offers a uniquely cost-effective speaker and source management solution.

The advantages of the SMC become especially apparent in combination with modern audio and video production tools such as ProTools, Nuendo, Cubase, Logic, Deck etc. Monitor levels and source management can be handled independently of the software and with virtually no loss in quality. You no longer need to set up additional aux sends or an alternative surround master for monitoring. In addition, you won't have to worry about over- or underdriving the converters due to monitor levels.

One of the SMC's biggest advantages is the possibility to manage several input sources: comparing and monitoring SACD or DVD material is much easier than having to import all of your audio files and set up monitor mixes - not to mention the conversion of multichannel audio.

Standard A/V receivers are often used for this task. The problem with this is that the audio has to be either AD/DA converted or manipulated by signal-degenerating control circuitry (VCA's, DAC's etc.) for volume control, so you never hear the unadulterated audio - especially frustrating when you're working on SACD or DVD-A projects.

The SMC's rugged and ergonomic steel-blue desktop enclosure with its slanted front panel harmonizes perfectly with the desktop production environment and can be placed exactly where control is needed.

Rear Panel & Connections
In addition to a surround speaker set, a stereo pair can be connected to and managed by the SMC. A DB25 input connector provides six surround and two stereo input channels. Eight additional RCA connectors allow easy connection of SACD, DVD, CD or DAT players. A slave output allows the stereo or surround input signal to be routed directly to a recording device. Volume control is handled by a discrete six-layer potentiometer and all switching functions by extremely durable precision pushbuttons.

SPL's renowned electronic balancing circuitry forms the basis for the SMC's I/O architecture. Its extended frequency range up to 100 kHz, exceptional dynamic spectrum and excellent common mode rejection ensure specs that exceed SACD standards, as only highest quality analog circuitry can provide.

Applications:
Surround and stereo production
DVD-V, DVD-A, SACD and DTS authoring
Film and video postproduction
Video and game production
A/V and multimedia production
Audiophile home entertainment systems
