Chinese OEM Acquires Century‑Old Beyerdynamic

German headphone and mic specialist Beyerdynamic, founded in 1924 in Berlin, has agreed to be acquired by Chinese audio equipment manufacturer Cosonic Intelligent Technologies, a subsidiary of Jiahe, in a deal valued at around €122 million (roughly US $140 million).

Despite the change in ownership, Beyerdynamic's managing directors have assured that headphones will continue to be handmade in Germany, and the company will function as an independent entity under the current leadership. The deal also includes Beyerdynamic’s U.S., Chinese, and Indian subsidiaries.

Cosonic, known primarily for producing audio components for bigger brands, sees this as a strategic move to elevate its own presence and shift into premium audio markets, using Beyerdynamic’s Tesla-driven technologies, established sales channels, and R&D footprint.

The transaction isn’t final yet, and regulatory approval is expected within the next three to five months

What It Means for Customers

  • Product quality and identity should remain consistent, with ongoing production in Germany.

  • You’ll still see the same leadership and brand focus on professional, consumer, and gaming headphones.

  • In the long run, the acquisition may bring more investment, greater global reach, and access to new tech—though some fear it could lead to cost-cutting or dilution of brand character
