Focal is a French manufacturer of high-fidelity audio equipment known for its loudspeakers, headphones, and professional monitoring systems. The company was founded in 1979 in Saint-Étienne, France, by engineer and hi-fi enthusiast Jacques Mahul, who began designing and manufacturing speaker drivers in a small workshop within his family’s precision engineering business. Initially operating under the names Focal and JMlab, the company developed both speaker components and complete loudspeaker systems before adopting the single Focal brand in the early 2000s. Today, Focal produces a wide range of audio products for home listening, professional studios, automotive systems, and personal audio, and is recognized internationally for its engineering and acoustic design.
