At its core, the 88R LBC houses the same VCA compression circuit used in Neve’s flagship 88RS console. User-Friendly Controls with Auto Makeup Gain
One standout feature is the Auto Makeup Gain (A.MKP), which intelligently adjusts output gain as compression settings change. This means engineers can dial in threshold and ratio without worrying about volume jumps, preserving consistent levels and simplifying A/B comparisons.
For manual control, the makeup gain knob allows up to 30dB of boost. When A.MKP is engaged, the knob is bypassed, and gain is automatically compensated based on threshold and ratio, perfect for fast-paced sessions or streamlined tracking.
Advanced Compression Features
- Attack & Release: Dual-mode adaptive attack and triple-capacitor Auto Release settings react musically to program material. Fast Attack mode offers a blistering 0.1ms response, ideal for capturing transients without harshness.
- Sidechain HPF: Adjustable sidechain filters (80Hz, 125Hz, 300Hz) prevent low-end signals from dominating compression, allowing for mix bus clarity or fine-tuned instrument processing.
- Linking Capability: True console-style group compression is achievable by linking multiple 88R LBC units. Each retains independent settings while sharing sidechain control, giving per-channel flexibility with group dynamics.
