Chandler Limited and Abbey Road Studios Reveal REDD Mixing System – First EMI Console in 50 Years

Studio Economik |

Chandler Limited and Abbey Road Studios have announced the REDD Mixing System, a fully modular analog console that brings together the historic sound of EMI’s REDD, TG, and RS series in a modern, configurable format. This marks the first EMI recording console release in over five decades and represents six years of development between Chandler Limited’s Wade Goeke and Abbey Road’s Head of Audio Products, Mirek Stiles.

Designed for adaptability, the REDD Mixing System allows users to combine various cassette modules, like the TG MKIV, REDD, RS and TG Buss, Master Buss, Expander, and Control Room units, into custom configurations. These can range from compact studio setups to expansive control room systems. Every cassette is hand-built and hardwired in Shell Rock, Iowa, staying true to the craftsmanship of the original EMI Hayes facility.

Key Features of the REDD Mixing System:

  • Modular Format: Fully customizable layout with intermixable tube and solid-state channels.
  • Cassette Types:
    • Input: TG2-style preamp with Curvebender EQ, tube REDD pre/EQ with Pop and Classic EQ curves, and upcoming TG MKI with germanium transistors (Q4 2026 release).
    • Buss: Class A TG2-style and RS61-style tube buss, with onboard NAB/IEC EQ and wet/dry mix controls.
  • Expander Cassette: Includes 12 Class A TG2-style circuits with 12 transformers, enabling expanded I/O for larger mix systems.
  • Control Room Module: Offers comprehensive monitoring, speaker switching, headphone amp, talkback, and a stereo master section.

All switches, PCBs, and solder points are hand-built with no surface-mount or ribbon cables used. Newly designed vintage-style faders with a modern mechanism and LED backlighting add tactile clarity in low-light conditions.

Currently, the REDD Mixing System is being released as a soft launch and is available only in the U.S. via special order. First deliveries are expected to begin in August 2026. Chandler Limited is still in the process of building infrastructure to support wider distribution.
