Genelec has introduced the new 8380A three-way SAM™ main monitor, designed to bring high-performance sound to medium-sized control rooms and premium home audio setups. Building on the legacy of the 1038 and 1238 monitors, and sitting alongside the flagship 8381A, the 8380A delivers accurate imaging, powerful dynamics, and consistent clarity at any volume.
At the heart of the 8380A is a 380 mm woofer paired with Genelec’s patented coaxial midrange-tweeter. This combination ensures excellent directivity control, high SPL capability, and incredibly low self-noise. Even during long sessions or close-up listening, the 8380A offers fatigue-free monitoring, allowing users to trust every sonic detail.
The monitor’s enclosure features dual forward-facing reflex ports for clean, distortion-free bass, even at high playback levels. Genelec’s Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) surrounds the coaxial driver, enhancing clarity across both on- and off-axis listening positions. The time-aligned performance allows perfect phase matching with other monitors in the 8300 Series, The Ones, and The Main Ones families.
Amplification is handled by the integrated RAM-L2 module, with Class D amplifiers for the woofer and midrange, and a Class AB amp for the tweeter. The design is fanless for zero noise, and includes intelligent power management for energy efficiency. With a frequency response of 29 Hz to 43 kHz and a maximum SPL of 122 dB, the 8380A is ready for demanding applications. Conveniently, it shares the same dimensions as the older 1038 and 1238 models, making it a drop-in upgrade.
As part of Genelec’s SAM lineup, the 8380A is fully compatible with GLM software, enabling users to calibrate their systems based on room acoustics. GLM’s GRADE feature offers detailed room analysis and practical advice, helping users and studio designers optimize both monitor placement and acoustic treatment.
According to Genelec Managing Director Siamäk Naghian, the 8380A was created to deliver cutting-edge performance in a more compact format, bridging the gap between classic midfield designs and modern immersive monitoring needs. Following its online debut, the 8380A will be showcased at audio events worldwide, beginning with Beatcon and Tonmeistertagung in Germany.
