Genelec has released version 2.0 of its Smart IP Controller app, a full redesign of the mobile control interface for its Smart IP loudspeaker series. Built from the ground up, the new app replaces the original with a faster, more accessible experience aimed at both integrators setting up systems and end users managing them daily.
The app is available for iOS and Android on smartphones and tablets. It's designed specifically for Genelec Smart IP audio-over-IP installations, the kind found in hospitality venues, retail environments, and similar small-to-mid-scale commercial spaces where reliable, straightforward audio control matters more than deep feature access.
What's New in Version 2.0
The visual interface has been significantly refined. The app now centres around loudspeaker zone management, giving users a clear view of each zone alongside individual controls for volume, mute, and power. Setup is guided and automatic. Once installed, the app discovers zones already configured on the network, so integrators don't need to manually assign each one unless they want a custom view.
One of the more useful additions is direct access to profiles created in Genelec's Smart IP Manager software. This means EQ settings, input selections, and level presets configured during installation can be recalled quickly from the app without having to go back into the full management software. For venues that operate across different times of day or different use cases, that kind of fast recall is genuinely practical.
The app also supports simultaneous use across multiple control devices, which makes it viable for venues where more than one person handles audio responsibilities.
Accessible Without Sacrificing Control
Aki Mäkivirta, R&D Director at Genelec, put it plainly, the goal was to give users flexible, reliable control without requiring investment in dedicated automation hardware or specialized network training. That positions Smart IP Controller 2.0 as a practical solution for spaces that need professional-grade audio but don't have a dedicated AV engineer on staff.
