Neumann Launches the KH 310 II and KH 350 Three-Way Studio Monitors for Nearfield and Midfield Monitoring

Neumann has released the KH 310 II and KH 350, two new three-way active studio monitors that bring the company’s latest DSP, amplification, and room alignment technology to professional monitoring applications. The KH 310 II is the direct successor to the long-established KH 310 A, retaining the sealed three-way format and acclaimed 3-inch soft-dome midrange driver while adding more output, lower distortion, updated amplification, and support for MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment. The KH 350 is an entirely new midfield model designed for larger rooms and longer listening distances, with deeper low-frequency extension and greater authority through the bass range. Together, the two monitors expand Neumann’s current KH lineup for recording, mixing, mastering, post-production, broadcast, and immersive audio environments.

Neumann KH 310 II Refines a Proven Reference Monitor

The Neumann KH 310 II is the successor to the KH 310 A, a monitor that has become a familiar reference in professional recording, mixing, mastering, broadcast, and post-production rooms. Rather than changing the basic concept, Neumann has kept the three-way sealed design and its 3-inch soft-dome midrange driver while reworking much of the system around it. 

The KH 310 II uses an 8.25-inch woofer, 3-inch midrange driver, and 1-inch tweeter, driven by substantially more powerful Class D amplification than the previous generation. Woofer power increases from 210 watts to 300 watts, midrange power moves from 90 watts to 160 watts, and tweeter power rises from 90 watts to 125 watts.

Neumann specifies 5 dB higher SPL than the KH 310 A in both half-space and full-space measurements. The new woofer also provides greater linear excursion and reduced intermodulation distortion, while overall THD has been lowered across the bandwidth.

The sealed enclosure remains an important part of the KH 310 II design. It supports precise transient response and low group delay, making the monitor particularly well suited to critical work where bass definition, timing, and midrange detail need to remain clear at the listening position.

Linearity is specified at ±0.6 dB from 100 Hz to 10 kHz. The cabinet also retains the same external dimensions as the KH 310 A, which simplifies replacement in existing rooms and installations.

Neumann recommends a listening distance of approximately 1.0 to 2.5 metres for the KH 310 II, while listing a feasible operating range from 0.75 to 6 metres.

Neumann KH 350 Adds More Low-Frequency Authority

The Neumann KH 350 is a new three-way bass reflex midfield monitor designed for larger rooms, longer listening distances, and applications requiring greater low-frequency output.

Like the KH 310 II, the KH 350 uses an 8.25-inch woofer, 3-inch midrange driver, and 1-inch tweeter. Its larger format and bass reflex architecture allow it to extend lower, reaching 30 Hz at ±3 dB and 27 Hz at ±6 dB.

Maximum SPL is comparable to the KH 310 II overall, but the KH 350 provides approximately 2 dB more output between 50 and 100 Hz. That additional low-frequency capacity makes it especially relevant for film scoring, post-production, immersive audio, and modern music production where substantial bass content needs to be evaluated directly through the monitors.

The KH 350 also uses a large MMD waveguide designed to control directivity through the midrange and high frequencies. This helps maintain consistent off-axis behaviour and precise vocal definition at greater listening distances and across multichannel rooms.

Neumann recommends a listening distance of approximately 1.2 to 3.0 metres for the KH 350, with a feasible range from 1.0 to 9.0 metres. It sits between the KH 310 II and KH 420 in the Neumann monitoring range and is intended to provide powerful full-range monitoring without requiring a subwoofer in many installations. 

Shared DSP and MA 1 Integration

Although the KH 310 II and KH 350 serve different room sizes and listening positions, they share the same drivers, amplification platform, and DSP architecture. This gives them consistent voicing and makes them easier to combine within larger monitoring systems.

Both monitors use a full 32-bit DSP signal path and support Neumann MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment. MA 1 allows the monitoring system to be calibrated for the room and listening position, giving engineers a practical way to address acoustic interaction without adding a separate correction processor.

Analog and digital AES3id inputs are provided, with the digital connection using BNC. Both models also use Neumann's ELFF woofer technology, which is designed to maintain very low distortion even when the woofer is operating at higher excursion.

Improved unit-to-unit consistency is another part of the new platform. This is particularly important in stereo, surround, and immersive rooms where differences between individual monitors can affect imaging and localization.

KH 310 II or KH 350

The main distinction between the two monitors comes down to room size, listening distance, cabinet behaviour, and low-frequency requirements.

The KH 310 II is the more compact option and retains the sealed enclosure of the KH 310 A. It is designed around precision, transient accuracy, and balance, making it a strong fit for critical stereo monitoring, mastering, editing, and production rooms where the listening position remains relatively close.

The KH 350 is aimed at situations where greater scale is required. Its bass reflex design reaches lower, provides more output through the 50 to 100 Hz region, and supports longer listening distances. For larger production rooms, film work, and immersive configurations, that additional low-frequency capability can reduce the need to rely immediately on a subwoofer.

A More Complete Neumann Monitoring Range

The KH 310 II and KH 350 also expand the options available when building mixed-model Neumann monitoring systems. Their shared DSP platform, consistent voicing, and MA 1 compatibility allow different KH models to be combined more predictably across stereo and immersive setups.

This is especially useful in Dolby Atmos rooms and other multichannel installations where every speaker does not need to be physically identical. Front channels may require more output and extension than surrounds or overheads, but consistent voicing and calibration remain essential throughout the room.

Neumann has also expanded mounting and protection options for the new monitors. The KH 310 II can be used with the LH 67 table stand and LH 25 II U-bracket, while the KH 350 can be mounted using the LH 30 U-bracket. Optional metal front grilles are also available for both models.

The KH 310 A Reaches the End of Its Run

The launch of the KH 310 II also marks the phase-out of the KH 310 A. Neumann lists September 30, 2026 as the end-of-life date for the current left and right KH 310 A models, with service support planned through September 2035. 

For existing KH 310 A users, the unchanged external dimensions of the KH 310 II are an important practical detail. Studios can move to the new DSP-based generation without having to redesign the monitoring position simply to accommodate a different cabinet size.

A Major Update to Neumann's Three-Way Monitor Lineup

The KH 310 II takes a familiar Neumann reference monitor and updates it with more output, lower distortion, modern DSP, digital connectivity, and MA 1 support while preserving the sealed cabinet and 3-inch midrange driver that defined the previous generation.

The KH 350 extends the same platform into a larger midfield design with deeper bass response, stronger low-frequency output, and controlled directivity for larger rooms and immersive production.

Together, the KH 310 II and KH 350 give engineers two clearly differentiated three-way monitoring options built around the same current-generation Neumann platform.
