RODE has released a firmware update for its Wireless Pro and Wireless Go Gen 3 microphones, adding Direct Connect functionality for iPhone and iPad users. With this update, creators can pair their transmitters directly to compatible iOS devices over Bluetooth using the Rode Capture app, removing the need for a physical receiver.

Direct Connect was previously available on the Rode Wireless Micro. Its addition to the Wireless Pro and Wireless Go 3rd Gen expands mobile recording flexibility for users who prefer a streamlined setup when filming or capturing audio on iOS devices.
The update maintains the core recording options of both systems. Users can continue working with two transmitters and choose between:
- Merged mode, which combines both microphones into a single stereo track
- Split mode, which records each transmitter on separate channels for greater control during post production
According to Rode, the firmware update does not alter the systems’ audio performance specifications. The Wireless Pro and Wireless Go Gen 3 continue to support the same wireless recording workflows, now with the added option of direct Bluetooth connectivity to iPhones and iPads.
For content creators working in mobile video production, location sound, or social media content, Direct Connect offers an additional configuration choice without requiring new hardware.
