The Soyuz 023 Bomblet is a compact large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone that delivers the distinctive tonal character of the 023 series in a smaller, uniquely shaped body. Designed and manufactured with Soyuz’s meticulous in-house craftsmanship, the microphone combines rich analog color with clarity, making it suitable for both studio recording and demanding instrument capture.
At its core is the custom S23 large-diaphragm capsule, featuring two 33 mm diaphragms (one gold-sputtered) designed and machined by Soyuz. This capsule produces the signature tonal balance of the 023 series: thick low frequencies, a pronounced and detailed midrange, and a smooth, forgiving top end. This voicing allows the microphone to capture aggressive or bright sources without harshness while maintaining strong transient detail.
The microphone also incorporates Soyuz’s proprietary toroidal output transformer, which adds harmonic richness and depth to the signal. This transformer stage contributes to the microphone’s characteristic warmth and dimensionality, helping recordings sit naturally in dense mixes while retaining clarity and punch.
With a cardioid polar pattern, the 023 Bomblet focuses on the primary sound source while rejecting unwanted off-axis noise. It offers a frequency response of 20 Hz to 18 kHz, sensitivity of 24.5 mV/Pa, and can handle sound pressure levels up to 140 dB, making it well suited for a wide range of applications including vocals, electric guitar amplifiers, drums, bass cabinets, brass, and acoustic instruments.
The microphone operates using 48 V phantom power and features a durable metal body with a distinctive spherical “Bomblet” design that allows flexible placement in tight recording setups. Measuring 194 mm in length and 47 mm in diameter and weighing 510 g, the Soyuz 023 Bomblet combines robust construction with the classic sonic character that defines the Soyuz microphone lineup.
