The RME AoX-MADI-EXT-SFP is an expansion board designed for the RME HDSPe AoX PCIe audio interface, adding optical MADI connectivity for high-channel-count digital audio systems. Installed directly onto the HDSPe AoX card, it replaces the standard coaxial MADI ports with optical SFP ports, enabling integration with fiber-based MADI networks commonly used in large studios, broadcast facilities, and live production environments.
The board provides two optical MADI ports using SFP modules, supporting up to 128 channels of digital audio I/O at 48 kHz, 64 channels at 96 kHz, or 32 channels at 192 kHz. It also includes a BNC word clock connector that can operate as either an input or output, allowing precise synchronization with external digital audio equipment. Multimode SFP modules are included, while single-mode modules can be used optionally for longer fiber runs.
Built around the widely adopted MADI (Multichannel Digital Audio Protocol) standard, the AoX-MADI-EXT-SFP enables reliable, low-latency audio transmission over long distances with minimal cabling. When paired with the HDSPe AoX interface, it provides a flexible solution for routing large numbers of audio channels in professional recording, broadcast, and live sound systems.
