The Fostex TH1100RPmk2 is a flagship pair of open-back planar magnetic headphones from Fostex’s Premium RP series, designed to deliver exceptional resolution, natural sound reproduction, and refined craftsmanship. Hand assembled in Japan, these headphones combine advanced acoustic engineering with traditional materials, including beautifully finished hard maple wood housings dyed using the historic Awa indigo technique. This fusion of modern audio technology and traditional craftsmanship creates a unique listening experience both visually and sonically.

At the core of the TH1100RPmk2 is Fostex’s Premium RP planar magnetic driver, an evolution of the company’s RP technology originally developed in 1974. The driver uses a large planar diaphragm with optimized air damping and carefully tuned magnetic circuitry to achieve smooth frequency response, fast transient performance, and precise sound localization. The result is highly detailed reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum, from deep low frequencies to clear and extended highs, delivering an expansive and natural soundstage suited for critical listening and professional monitoring.

Comfort and durability are also central to the design. Newly developed mk2 ear pads feature a sloped shape and dual layer internal structure that adapts naturally to the shape of the face for long listening sessions. Lightweight magnesium alloy components reduce overall weight while maintaining structural strength, and the headband and head pad use soft natural sheepskin for a comfortable fit. According to the specifications in the manual, the headphones feature a 32-ohm impedance, 96 dB sensitivity, a 10 Hz–40 kHz frequency response, and a weight of approximately 420 g without the cable .

The TH1100RPmk2 also offers flexible connectivity with detachable cables using dual 3.5 mm connectors, allowing users to swap cables easily or upgrade to an optional balanced cable.
