Description

The Schoeps ORTF-3D Outdoor Set in its stand version is a complete plug-and-play set for 3D ambience recording. It combines eight supercardioid microphones, a windscreen with elastic mounting and fur, and the cabling in one ready-to-use package. This version has its mounting and cable outlet at the bottom, with a 3/8" thread for a stand.

The ORTF-3D belongs to the Schoeps ORTF series and gives very good 360° imaging with a natural spatial impression and a large listening area. Four CCM 41 and four CCM 41V microphones work on two layers, a bottom layer with channels 1 to 4 and a top layer with channels 5 to 8, so the set records eight channels for 3D audio and VR.

Internal heating allows continuous 24/7 outdoor use, which makes the set suited to ambience recording at sports events, film sound and similar work. The fur gives much better wind protection, and an optional rain cover can be used in its place when rain is expected.

Complete Plug-and-Play 3D Set
The set comes with windscreen, fur, elastic mounting, microphones and cabling, so it is ready for 3D ambience recording without assembling a custom rig.

Eight Supercardioid Microphones
Four CCM 41 and four CCM 41V compact microphones are arranged in two layers. Supercardioid pickup keeps directivity highly independent of frequency.

Stand Version With 3/8" Thread
Mounting and cable outlet are at the bottom, so the windshield can sit on a microphone stand. The stand version uses its own fur and rain cover, different from the hanging version.

Heated Windshield
The internal heating allows continuous 24/7 outdoor use. The heating should be on all the time to dry out the fabric, and at least two hours before use.

Fur Included for Wind Protection
The long hair fur gives significantly better wind protection than the rain cover. Because of the output hole, the windshield with fur cannot withstand rain, and wet fur strongly attenuates high frequencies.

Optional Rain Cover
A rain cover for the stand version is available as an optional accessory and can be used instead of the fur.

Two Breakout Cables, Clear Channel Allocation
Two 4-channel breakout cables with XLR-3M outlets split the multicore connections into bottom layer channels 1 to 4 and top layer channels 5 to 8. The cable with the heating connector goes to the outlet marked heating.

Modular Microphone Alternative
Microphones made of a CMC 1 L amplifier and an MK capsule can be used instead of the CCM microphones, so capsules can be exchanged.
