Description

CEDAR Decrackle (I-DCR) is a specialized audio restoration plug-in designed to remove crackle, surface noise, and related distortions while preserving the integrity of the original recording. Built around CEDAR’s Emmy® Award-winning Split & Recombine technology, it separates unwanted crackle from the desired audio, allowing noise to be removed before the signals are seamlessly recombined. This unique approach delivers exceptionally clean results while minimizing the artefacts and tonal changes often associated with conventional restoration methods.

Widely used in the restoration of music recordings, film soundtracks, archival material, and vintage television audio, Decrackle is particularly effective when dealing with recordings affected by persistent surface noise, worn media, or age-related degradation. It is also a valuable tool for DJs, sampling artists, and engineers working with vinyl transfers who want to refine and polish source material before further production or mastering. In addition to crackle removal, the process can help reduce certain types of buzz and amplitude-related distortions, making it a versatile addition to restoration workflows.

Designed for simplicity as well as performance, Decrackle features a single Threshold control that determines the sensitivity of the process. Higher settings focus on more obvious crackle and distortion, while lower settings target finer imperfections and subtle noise. For best results, significant clicks and ticks should be removed beforehand using a dedicated declicking process. Available for macOS and Windows in AAX, AU, and VST3 formats, Decrackle provides a fast and effective solution for restoring damaged recordings and improving overall audio quality with minimal effort.

Features

Variable Restoration Intensity
Allows users to target either obvious crackle or more subtle crackle, buzz, and distortion depending on the threshold setting.

Fine Crackle Removal
Lower threshold settings can remove fine crackle, subtle buzz, and low-level distortion.

Obvious Defect Removal
Higher threshold settings focus processing on the most noticeable crackles and buzzes.

Optimized for Clean Results
Designed to remove as much crackle and distortion as possible while minimizing unwanted side effects.

Low-Artefact Processing
Threshold settings can be adjusted to avoid introducing processing artefacts into the restored audio.
