The Fostex TH1000RPmk2 is a premium pair of closed-back planar magnetic headphones designed to deliver high resolution sound with the craftsmanship and acoustic engineering that define Fostex’s flagship RP series. Carefully assembled by hand in Japan, the headphones use Fostex’s proprietary RP planar magnetic driver technology, which moves the entire diaphragm in a uniform phase to produce detailed, natural sound reproduction. The result is clear imaging, strong transient response, and balanced performance across the frequency spectrum.
At the core of the TH1000RPmk2 is the Premium RP Driver mk2, an advanced planar magnetic driver refined through air damping control and carefully tuned internal components. This design optimizes diaphragm movement to deliver controlled low frequencies, smooth midrange detail, and clear high frequency reproduction. The large diaphragm and magnetic circuit help suppress unwanted resonance, allowing the headphones to present music with precise localization and excellent clarity.
The headphones also feature beautifully crafted hard maple wood housings, dyed using the traditional Awa Aizome indigo technique developed in collaboration with skilled artisans in Tokushima, Japan. Each housing is dyed by hand using natural plant-based indigo, resulting in a deep blue finish that highlights the unique grain of the maple wood. This material choice not only adds a distinctive visual character but also contributes to a clean, natural tonal balance.
Comfort and durability are addressed through redesigned mk2 ear pads with a dual-layer internal structure and a sloped shape that conforms naturally to the listener’s face. Lightweight magnesium alloy mechanical parts reduce overall weight while maintaining structural strength, and the headband and head pad are made from natural sheepskin for a soft, comfortable fit during long listening sessions.
With a 32-ohm impedance, 100 dB sensitivity, and a wide 10 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response, the TH1000RPmk2 is capable of reproducing music with impressive depth and detail.
