The Fostex TH919 is a premium open-back headphone that blends advanced acoustic engineering with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. As the evolution of the renowned TH900 series, the TH919 builds upon its predecessor’s reputation for detailed sound and distinctive design while introducing a newly refined driver, improved materials, and a redesigned structure for enhanced listening performance.
At the core of the TH919 is the newly developed 50 mm BioDyna driver, designed to deliver high resolution sound with smooth tonal balance. The upgraded diaphragm edge improves amplitude stability, producing tight and controlled low frequencies while minimizing unwanted resonance. This refined driver design allows the headphones to reproduce music with clear mids, articulate bass, and extended, shimmering highs, maintaining depth and natural musical expression across the full frequency range.
The headphone housing is crafted from solid hard maple wood and finished with traditional Japanese “Urushi” lacquer, developed in collaboration with artisans from Sakamoto Otozo Shoten. The finish features a striking foil pattern created from black lacquer and sulfur smoked silver foil, giving the headphones a distinctive appearance while maintaining the acoustic neutrality of the dense maple wood. The open-back structure also incorporates precision aluminum components with laser-cut mesh inspired by traditional Kumiko woodwork, creating a spacious soundstage and natural listening experience.
Comfort and durability are addressed with magnesium alloy mechanical parts, reducing overall weight while maintaining strength. The redesigned ear pads use a dual layer urethane structure with silk protein synthetic leather for improved durability and comfort during long listening sessions. A natural sheepskin headband and head pad further enhance the fit and overall wearing experience.
With a 25-ohm impedance, 100 dB sensitivity, and an extended frequency response from 12.5 Hz to 45 kHz, the TH919 delivers detailed and dynamic audio reproduction. It includes a high purity OFC detachable cable and protective pouch, making it a refined choice for audiophiles seeking both exceptional sound performance and premium craftsmanship.
