These are not my main headphones (for those I use Sennheiser HD 650) so it took me 1 1/2 years (!) to notice that the 1/4" adapter makes these phones mono. Yep.
Pulled an old adapter out of the adapter-bin and now they are stereo. The 1/8" plug is stereo -- that's how I narrowed it down.

Beyerdynamic has a QC problem here that has been around for at least 7 years -- I googled around. I don't get how they can let that go on.
Other than that, they are fine: comfortable, decent isolation, nice sound -- they do the trick for tracking, and non-critical listening when bleed from the open-backs is a problem.
