This mic is certainly not cheap, especially compared to more common / affordable options from Shure, Sennheiser and others that I own and use. But, what this mic does, and does not do, is give you an honest and true representation of the signal with nothing added or "bumped up" etc.
Read moreI use it both for live and studio work. It has replaced my large condenser studio microphone for vocal tracking. It tames bright / harsh voices, provides a good amount of clean low end warmth. I've used it on a Marshall amp and the sound is more rounded and less harsh than the SM57, but it's not a dark mic, the highs still come through great, just smoother.
The quality of sound this microphone reproduces is noticeable from the first take. My Rode NT1A, which has served me very well for vocals for years, does not give me the same high quality results that the SR40V does. And the rejection of noise, room sound, feedback etc.. is just on another level. I can't say enough good things about this mic, worth every penny.
