With the "mode controller" one can vary the distance between the heads to get longer and shorter delays but also different rhythmic patterns. The ES-5 uses a long tape to keep the quality high. The tape speed can be varied too. There are controls for Feedback, Volume and delay Tone and you can connect a footswitch for easy operation.
