I am using the Clarett 8PreX with a macbook pro, an audient asp800 8 channel preamp with conversion ADAT and ProTools 11. So far everything is very stable, was very easy to get set up, and easy to manipulate through the accompanying software (i.e. to set up the ADAT clock source etc.)
For the price I think this is an amazing unit. Read more
The build seems very sturdy and well put together, none of the cheapness sometimes found in units around this price point, sleek, the inputs/outputs and knobs and displays are all well designed and ordered, and the sound of the internal pres is great at least for my use. I have not been able to test it against other units like the Apollos but at least in their marketing material they can claim it compares favorably, whether totally true or not it does suggest it's at least in the same playing field as much more expensive gear. No issues so far with any crashing, pops and hiss, or any of the numerous issues I encountered with previous interfaces.
Not much difference with the 8Pre it seems but I was happier to have the individual channel control of phantom power over banks of 4, and the separate xlr and 1/4" inputs while not a big deal, seems like a slight advantage. I also like the layout on the 2RU version although having 1RU is obviously advantageous for other reasons.
Marc-André as always was very helpful and accommodating in choosing and buying this and I can't recommend Economik enough as a source.
