Focusrite Rednet D16 AES

RedNet D16 AES is a 1U 19in rack-mount interface featuring 16 channels of AES/EBU connectivity to and from a Dante audio network, with Ethernet redundancy.

Perfect for bridging between digital consoles, power amplifiers or any other AES3 equipped audio equipment and a Dante network, RedNet D16 AES has a Sample Rate Convertor (SRC) on each input pair allowing instant operation with any AES3 source. Word Clock and Digital Audio Reference Signal (DARS) connections provide synchronisation with a wide range of hardware, while S/PDIF I/O allows the integration of equipment such as CD or solid state recorders/players.

About RedNet
RedNet is Focusrite's range of modular audio over IP interfaces that harnesses the power of Audinate's tried and tested Dante digital audio networking protocol to bring studio quality sound to any modern audio application.

Designed with multiple audio applications in mind - from live sound to multi-room recording studios, from houses of worship to audio distribution installations, and from post-production to broadcast environments and anything in between - RedNet provides a comprehensive range of Dante-enabled audio interfaces that can be used to expand I/O channel count, interface digital components, and/or bridge between Pro Tools|HD, MADI or AES environments and a Dante audio network.

Due to their modular design, RedNet units can be integrated into any existing Dante eco-system, or can be pieced together to form a brand new digital audio network.

Incorporating Focusrite's most advanced AD/DA conversion to date, rock-stable JetPLL clocking and premium multi-layer board circuitry, RedNet demonstrates Focusrite's philosophy that 'Sound is Everything'. With every design detail meticulously engineered, RedNet provides some of the most transparent and pristine audio quality available - with the added benefit of Dante's revolutionary networking capabilities.
16 Channel RedNet AES3 Interface for Dante Network
AES3 connectivity allows connection of external converters, effects units, mixing consoles or any other AES3 equipped audio equipment to the Dante audio network

Ethernet Redundancy
Dual rear-panel Ethernet connectors (primary and secondary connectors) allow maximum network reliability with seamless switchover to a standby network in the unlikely event of a network failure. The ports can alternatively be used to daisy-chain additional units.

Sample Rate Conversion on all input channels
SRC allows external equipment to run at any sample rate, irrespective of the sample rate or clocking of the Dante audio network

1U Chassis
Compact design allows maximum functionality in minimum rack space, with a full 16 channels of I/O in 1U. RedNet D16 AES features the standard trademark red anodised front panel

Input and Output on XLR as well as DB25
RedNet D16 provides two 8-channel AES59 combined I/O DB25 connections. In addition, a pair of XLR3 connectors duplicates channels 1 & 2

XLR Input for DARS or Digital Audio
The rear panel XLR input connector can either be used as a DARS input or as a traditional AES3 audio input, replacing channels 1-2 of the DB25 inputs

S/PDIF input and outputs are provided on RCA connectors; ideal for connecting CD players or solid-state recorders. The input replaces channels 3 & 4 in the DB25 connector while the output can be assigned to replicate any adjacent odd/even output pair

Word Clock
Word Clock I/O on BNC connectors allows synchronisation of the Dante network to house clock, or syncing external equipment to the Dante network

Remote routing and control
RedNet Control software allows full routing and control from your audio computer system via a software control panel - no hardware patching required
AES/EBU: 16 channels, with switchable SRC by input pair
AES/EBU Connectors: Channels 1-16: 2x 25-way female D-Sub, each wired to AES59 (combined I/O)/Tascam Digital, Channels 1-2 (switchable): XLR3F*
S/PDIF Input: Channels 3-4 (switchable)
S/PDIF connector: RCA Phono socket
Input format: Channel status ignored. Assumed to be 24 bit, 2-channel audio

Input Sample Rate Converters
Input sample rate range: 32 to 216 kHz
Gain error: -0.3 dB
Dynamic Range: > 138 dB (-60 dBFS method)
THD+N: < -130 dB (0.00003%); 0 dBFS input

AES/EBU: 16 channels, synchronous with unit sample rate
AES/EBU connectors: Channels 1-16: 2x 25-way female D-Sub, each wired to AES59 (combined I/O) (See "Inputs"), Channels 1-2: XLR3M*
S/PDIF output: 2 channels, synchronous with unit sample rate, Output can duplicate any adjacent odd/even pair of channels 1-16
S/PDIF connector: RCA Phono socket
Output format: AES3

Digital Performance
Supported sample rates: 44.1 / 48 / 88.2 / 96 / 176.4 / 192 kHz (-4% / -0.1% / +0.1% / +4.167%) at 24 bit
Clock sources: Internal or from network master device
Local clock sources: Internal, DARS, Word Clock, Input 1-2, Input 9-10
External word clock range: Nominal sample rate ±7.5%

Front Panel Indicators
Power Indicator: Green LED
Primary network: Green LED, indicates that a network connection is present on primary port when in redundant mode. When in switched mode, a valid network connection at either Primary or Secondary network port will cause this LED to illuminate
Secondary network: As Primary network indicator. Not used in switched mode.
Locked: Green LED. When unit is network slave, shows valid network lock, when network master shows unit is locked to indicated clock source. Flashing means invalid external clock present and unit has reverted to internal clock
Unit sample rate: Orange LED for each: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, x2, x4
Pull up/down: Indicates unit is set to operate on a Dante pull up/down domain
Signal indicators: 16 Green LEDs, 8 input/8 output indicators. Illuminate at -126 dBFS
Clock source indicators: Orange LED for each: Internal, Word Clock, DARS, Input 1-2, Input 9-10

Network Modes
Redundant: Allows unit to connect to two independent networks
Switched: Connects both ports to integrated network switch allowing daisy-chaining of devices

PSU: Internal, 100-240V, consumption 30 VA
