Symetrical power supply
The Gefell UMT800 is a large diaphragm FET studio condenser that combines the legendary M7 capsule with a symmetrical, transformerless pre-amp for exceptional detail and reach, while allowing sound pressure levels to 149dB. With five patterns to choose including omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hyper-cardioid and figure-8, the UMT800 provides outstanding flexibility making it ideal for voice, solo instrument, television broadcast and motion picture scoring stages.
One glance at the UMT800 and one immediately notices the large oval shape that distinguishes this special microphone. Inside the grill is the legendary Gefell M7 capsule. The legendary M7 employs two full-size 1-inch (25mm), 24 karat gold evaporated diaphragms with a unique PVC substrate. PVC differs from PE or Mylar capsules whereby a smoother, more rounded rendering of the source is achieved.
Inside the UMT800's large grill, a unique triangulated capsule pedestal reflects unwanted body refractions away from the capsule, thus reducing phase cancellation and the effects caused by comb-filtering. Less ?contamination? at the source results in greater detail and improved depth of field.
Below the head grill, three switches provide control over the UMT800. The first selects between omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid and figure-8 patterns by altering the voltage on the rear plate. A 10dB pad when engaged, allows sound pressure levels of up to an unprecedented 149dB. A smooth low-frequency roll-off (?10dB@90Hz) reduces low-end rumble and proximity effect when close mic?ing.
