Thunderbolt 3 Now Standard on Apogee Symphony MkII

Thunderbolt 3 Now Standard on Apogee Symphony MkII

Studio Economik |

Apogee updated the Symphony I/O Mk II so all new units include native Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. This simplifies setup with modern Mac systems and removes the need for adapters, giving users a cleaner and more reliable studio workflow.

What’s New

All current Symphony I/O Mk II units now feature a built in Thunderbolt 3 port. This provides direct connection to Thunderbolt 3, 4 or 5 Macs with certified Thunderbolt cables. The interface still delivers the same high quality AD and DA conversion, low latency performance and software control that professionals expect.

Cable and Port Compatibility

Thunderbolt 3, 4 and 5 ports share the same USB C connector and are backward compatible. Even when using Thunderbolt 4 or 5 cables, the interface will operate at Thunderbolt 3 speed, which is 40 Gbps. Longer optical Thunderbolt cables are recommended for studio installations where distance is a factor. USB C only cables will not function with the Symphony I/O Mk II, so certified Thunderbolt cables are required.

Deciding on an Upgrade

If a Thunderbolt 2 setup is working well, an immediate upgrade is not necessary. New buyers and users adopting current Mac hardware will appreciate the convenience of native Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Existing Mk II owners can convert their unit to Thunderbolt 3, but the process requires internal installation and is best performed by Apogee or an authorized service provider.

Benefits for Buyers

Native Thunderbolt 3 support provides simple and direct computer connection, flexibility for larger studio layouts and smooth integration with current and future Mac systems. It also helps protect long term value as Thunderbolt 3 and newer cable standards continue to shape professional workflows.
