Description

The Golden Age Project PRE-73 Jr MKII is a single-channel vintage-style microphone and instrument preamplifier. The signal path uses only discrete components such as resistors, capacitors, and transistors. The input and output stages are transformer balanced, with each transformer optimized for its purpose. This MKII version features a small format perfectly suited to the UNITE MKII rack kit.

By employing vintage analog circuitry and avoiding integrated circuits, the PRE-73 Jr MKII is able to deliver a prized vintage sound with up to 70 dB of gain. The circuit in the unit is similar to the classic 1073 module with a corresponding sound character that is warm, punchy, sweet, and musical. To reduce unwanted low-end rumbles, engage the 6 dB high-pass filter at either 40 or 170 Hz. To add presence to vocals and instruments, engage the two-position AIR boost to add 3 or 6 dB at 30 kHz. The preamp can supply 48V phantom power for microphones that require it.

The output level control makes it possible to do fine gain adjustments and also to overload the main gain stage for more character and then lower the signal to a suitable level before the output stage

Combo XLR/TRS input jack and separate output XLR and TRS jacks for flexible connections

Insert jack for inserting EQs and other units

Circuit board is prepared for the Carnhill input transformer.

External power supply to avoid interaction with the audio circuits and transformers

Small format makes it possible to mount 4 units in the separately available 19-inch UNITE MKII rack kit

Solid build quality will last for many years of normal use
