Description

The Warm Audio Sound Techniques Jude Microphone Preamp brings the original Sound Techniques “A-Range” console preamp circuit from London’s legendary Trident Studios into a dedicated single-channel design. Created in collaboration with Sound Techniques and based on Geoff Frost’s original console schematics, Jude preserves the dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifier topology and transformer-coupled signal path associated with recordings from artists including The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, and Queen. Custom CineMag input and output transformers, premium capacitors, carbon resistors, and carefully hand-wired construction help retain the depth, punch, saturation, and musical character of the historic design.

Its distinctive 9-position Z-Match control is derived from the original Sound Techniques impedance-matching circuit, allowing the preamp to interact differently with a wide range of vintage and modern microphones. By changing input impedance, engineers can explore subtle variations in gain, response, and tonal character, making Jude equally useful for adding richness to vocals, guitars, piano, drums, and other sources. Up to 76 dB of preamp gain provides ample range for demanding microphones and quieter signals.

Jude also includes practical studio controls such as 48V phantom power, polarity switching, line-level operation, XLR and 1/4-inch connectivity, and VU meter level indication. Housed in a steel chassis with an aluminum faceplate, it combines the character of a celebrated 1960s and 1970s British console circuit with the connectivity and reliability expected in a modern recording setup.
