Description

The Schoeps CCM 21 K is a compact wide-cardioid microphone with a permanently attached 5 m cable and an XLR-3M connector. Its pickup pattern lies between omni and cardioid, and its directionality stays consistent throughout the frequency range.

Compared with a cardioid it has a fuller, more extended low-frequency response with less proximity effect, and it attenuates side and rear sound less. Its uniform off-axis response helps nearby instruments blend into the overall mix. Schoeps notes it is often preferred as a spot microphone or as the main pair for overall stereo pickup, and that M/S and near-coincident spacings are often successful.

Features

Wide Cardioid Pattern
A pattern between omni and cardioid with especially consistent directionality throughout its frequency range.

Fuller Low Frequencies
More extended low-frequency response than a cardioid, with less proximity effect.

Uniform Off-Axis Response
Helps nearby instruments blend seamlessly into the overall mix.

Spot and Main-Pair Use
Often preferred as a spot microphone or as the main pair for overall stereo pickup.

M/S and Near-Coincident Spacings
The low directivity is not enough for X/Y level differences, but M/S and near-coincident setups are often successful.

Fixed Cable with XLR-3M
A permanently attached 5 m cable ends in an XLR-3M connector.
