Description

The Schoeps CCM 21 Lg is the standard Lemo (L), gray version of the CCM 21 compact microphone, a wide cardioid with especially consistent directionality throughout its frequency range. The Lg version has a Lemo connector and the matte gray finish. It has a pleasant sound image that is often described as warm.

The pattern sits between omni and cardioid, so it combines advantages of both. Compared with a cardioid it has a fuller and more extended low frequency response with less proximity effect, while attenuating side- and rear-incident sound less.

It is often preferred as a spot microphone or as the main pair for overall stereo pickup. Its uniform off-axis response helps to blend nearby instruments into the overall mix, and M/S and near-coincident spacings are often successful, although the low directivity is not enough for X/Y use.

Features

Wide Cardioid Pattern
A directional pattern between omni and cardioid with especially consistent directionality throughout its frequency range.

Lemo Connector
The L version has a Lemo connector, and Schoeps supplies the K 5 LU cable with an XLR-3M end for it.

Fuller Low Frequencies
A fuller and more extended low frequency response than a cardioid, with less proximity effect.

Gentle Off-Axis Attenuation
Side- and rear-incident sound is attenuated less than with a cardioid.

Spot and Main Pair Use
Often preferred as a spot microphone, or as the main pair for overall stereo pickup.

Stereo Spacings
M/S and near-coincident spacings are often successful, though the low directivity does not give enough level difference for X/Y use.
