Description

The Schoeps CCM 8 is a compact microphone with a true dipole (bidirectional) figure-8 pattern, operating with a single diaphragm. This is the L version with the standard Lemo connector, in a matte gray finish. Its sound quality is described by Schoeps as clear and neutral.

As a pure pressure-gradient transducer, its directional characteristic is extraordinarily independent of frequency. Sensitivity decreases at low frequencies and proximity effect is present. The main axis is marked with a red dot at 0° and a black dot at 180°.

Used as a spot microphone, care must be taken to avoid unwanted direct sound from its rear, since sound from the back is picked up at full level but reversed in polarity. In M/S stereo recording it serves as the side channel, placed directly above or beneath the M channel microphone.
