Description
The Schoeps IRT 250 is a mounting bar for ambience recording in 5.1 surround according to the IRT cross technique by Günther Theile. It holds four cardioid or supercardioid microphones, either CCM microphones or a CMC 1 L amplifier combined with an MK 4 or MK 41 capsule.
In the IRT cross the four microphones are arranged so that in pairs they form an ORTF-like arrangement with a recording angle of approximately 90°, giving a uniform 360° image. Because of the distances between the microphones the diffuse field correlation is low, which gives very good spatial imaging. The four signals are routed discretely in 5.1 surround to L, R, LS and RS.
