Description

The SCHOEPS KA 40 is a 40 mm sphere attachment for omnidirectional microphones. It plugs onto the capsule and works as an acoustic filter, giving off-axis sound a larger shadowing at medium frequencies between 1 and 4 kHz.

The result is an illusion of closer placement. Greater miking distances can be used while keeping good focus in the sound, which helps the blend and balance when recording orchestras or choruses. The low-frequency response remains undiminished.

The KA 40 is recommended for the Decca Tree, where the higher directivity creates some level differences in an otherwise purely time-of-arrival-based stereophonic technique.
