Not surprising that this pre sounds amazing. I'm extremely happy I bought it. I'm definitely interested in the other Neve lunchbox modules and it's great that I can eventually get the 1073 EQ and have it inserted before the output transformer of the pre (like the classic standalone 1073 module) even though they'd be side by side in the lunchbox. Amazingly big sound with that classic Neve character. I've watched many shootouts between the Neve and other 1073 clones, and the Neve always wins to my ears as being slightly more musical on multiple sources (even in the blind shootout tests). This must have to do with the nuances of the Neve build, of which the other clone manufacturers haven't yet implemented in order to fully replicate the exact circuit that our ears have become accustomed to over the countless albums the Neve 1073 has been featured on. Amazing mic pre. No question! ;)

Classic vintage neve sound!
For the price, you can't beat this 500 series mic pre! If you're looking for the Neve sound, this is it! Thanks to Louis for encouraging the API lunchbox, great combo!

Great Neve sound
Le son Neve a un prix moindre. Combiné avec un R121 devant un ampli de guitar, cest un charme. A avoir dans son lunchbox.

Ce préamp sonne vraiment comme un Neve classique, il devient un élément important pour des highs très soyeux et des basses bien présentes. Le panneau est bien disposé, facile à reprendre et précis quand il le faut avec l'ajustement secondaire. Le commutateur d'impédance est là au besoin, permet de tester différents tones. La finition est solide, bien visible. Le 48v doit être activé en poussant un pot après chaque fermeture du module.
