I've been using the little brother of the KH310a for almost a decade. That's the KH120a, little 5"/2-way monitor. I've been very happy with frequency balance, stereo separation, depth of field, etc... Last summer I moved into a new space that was a smaller studio, but the control room was much larger in volume.
Read more After about 6 months in the new room I'd come to the conclusion that the KH120 monitors didn't have the oomf needed for the new room, despite the fact that I was happier than ever with them and my own work in the new space. After some research, the KH310 monitor turned out to be the perfect combination of price, feature and need fulfillment for my room, so I took a chance on them...
I couldn't be happier. Some of the significant issues I was dealing with in the room disappeared. Instantly. The depth I could hear in a mix suddenly extended into a 3D world I didn't know was possible. And of course the depth of the low end was awesome! Sure, it has the potential to be bigger than the KH120, but only if I want to push it. Specifically, the low end is deep and responsive. The low end in my masters and mixes is SO much easier to shape and control and punch.
Translation just took on a whole new meaning. :) I couldn't be happier.
