The new Sound Devices MixPre-3 is a hybrid mixer and audio interface, aimed by the company at "musicians, sound designers, podcasters and videographers".
The MixPre-3 features Sound Devices' new Kashmir microphone preamps. These high-performance, ultra-low-noise, discrete, Class-A mic preamps were hand-crafted by Sound Devices. The Kashmir mic preamps feature a -130dBV noise floor, analog limiters, and new 32-bit A-to-D converters to ensure the highest quality audio recordings that far surpass those of other recorders using simple off-the-shelf IC-based mic preamps.

Fantastic little recorder/mixer
Very nice preamps and user friendly operation. It should also be noted that in addition to the kashmir preamps that are great sounding, this mixer/recorder has a analog limiter. Much better more effective than digital limiters. This Premix 3 is very small for what it does, I'm impressed. Read more
The one thing that it does not have is built-in time code, that would have been icing on the cake for me. The Mixpre 6 has TC capabilities built-in so if you need that option that's the way to go. Seriously consider other powering options because the one it comes with (4 x AA battery sled) just does not cut it. There are many powering options to choose from, I have on order the Sony "L" series battery adaptor. Im using this unit for documentary films along with Sennheiser Wireless Lavs and MKH 416 Shotgun. Overall I can't find anything to gripe about, for the price this is a quality piece of sound gear that works well for run & gun doc filming. Also, I am very happy with the service at Studio Economik, first purchase but not the last!
