Clear Sound with Precision: Austrian Audio CC8-SC Supercardioid Microphone

Studio Economik |

The Austrian Audio CC8-SC is a small-diaphragm, true condenser microphone designed for audio professionals who need detailed, transparent sound with excellent directionality. Built by hand in Vienna and based on the OCC7 capsule, this mic is a refined version of the original CC8, now with a supercardioid polar pattern for more focused pickup and even better isolation.

What sets the CC8-SC apart is its ability to handle extreme sound pressure levels, up to 155 dB, without distortion. Whether you're recording loud brass instruments, drum kits, or guitar amps, this mic holds its ground while keeping background noise to a minimum thanks to a low self-noise level of just 13 dB(A).

Its sound signature is smooth and natural, with a slight roll-off in both the high and low ends to tame harshness and rumble. That tuning makes it a reliable spot mic in orchestras, a great choice for studio ensembles, or even overhead dialogue capture in film. Engineers will also appreciate the switchable high-pass filters (60 Hz and 120 Hz) and selectable -10 dB and -20 dB pads for loud sources.

Built to last, the CC8-SC features a sturdy all-metal housing and consistent sensitivity calibration (within ±0.5 dB) so any two mics can be reliably paired for stereo recording. The mic’s transformerless output ensures clarity and transparency across the frequency range (20 Hz–20 kHz), and its supercardioid pattern keeps focus on the source while minimizing bleed from surrounding instruments.
