Neve has announced a major expansion of its analogue audio hardware lineup with the launch of Neve Elements and the new 8424E console. The collection includes three eight-channel analogue processors, the Elements 88R EQ, Elements 88R Dynamics and Elements 1084 EQ, alongside the 24-channel 8424E recording console. Together, these products combine classic Neve console circuitry with software-based control, automation and session recall, giving studios new ways to incorporate authentic analogue processing into modern production workflows.

Neve Elements Brings Analogue Hardware into the Digital Workflow

Neve Elements is a modular range of standalone analogue audio processors designed to provide the sound of Neve's renowned recording consoles with the convenience of digital control. Rather than recreating analogue circuits through software modelling, each Elements unit contains genuine Neve analogue processing hardware that can be controlled remotely from a computer or compatible console.

The system launches with three distinct processors based on established Neve designs. Each unit contains eight channels of processing in a compact 2U, 19-inch rack enclosure, allowing studios to build multichannel EQ and dynamics systems without requiring a large-format console.

Elements can operate independently alongside existing audio interfaces, analogue consoles and patch bays. Studios can begin with a single processor and expand their setup over time, combining multiple units to suit their recording and mixing requirements.

Elements 88R EQ: Flagship Console Equalization

The Neve Elements 88R EQ brings the four-band semi-parametric equalizer circuitry of Neve's flagship 88R console into an eight-channel rackmount processor.

The design offers extensive tonal control across four overlapping frequency bands, making it suitable for detailed equalization during recording, mixing and other multichannel applications. The high and low frequency bands offer switchable bell and shelving characteristics, while the two midrange bands provide continuously variable frequency selection.

Each band delivers up to ±18 dB of boost or cut. The high-frequency band operates from 3.2 kHz to 18 kHz, the high-mid band covers 1.25 kHz to 10 kHz, the low-mid band ranges from 140 Hz to 1.6 kHz, and the low-frequency band covers 32 Hz to 360 Hz.

With eight channels of authentic 88R equalization available in a single unit, the Elements 88R EQ makes Neve's flagship console processing accessible to studios working with analogue multichannel signal paths.

Elements 88R Dynamics: Eight Channels of Neve VCA Processing

The Elements 88R Dynamics brings the dynamics architecture of the Neve 88R console into the Elements ecosystem, providing eight channels of analogue VCA compression, limiting, gating and expansion.

Each channel offers comprehensive dynamics control, including adjustable threshold, ratio, release and attack characteristics. Compression ratios range from 1:1 through limiting, while selectable fast attack settings allow engineers to adapt the response to different source material.

The compressor also provides up to 16 dB of makeup gain, along with an automatic makeup gain option. Its gate and expander section includes adjustable range, threshold and release controls, with selectable fast attack operation.

This combination allows the Elements 88R Dynamics to handle tasks ranging from controlled vocal and instrument compression to more extensive dynamics management across multitrack sessions. Like the other Elements processors, its settings can be controlled, automated and recalled digitally while the audio passes through genuine analogue circuitry.

Elements 1084 EQ: Classic Neve Equalization

The Elements 1084 EQ brings the celebrated Neve 1084 equalizer design into a digitally controlled, eight-channel format.

Based on the classic inductor-based three-band EQ circuitry associated with vintage Neve consoles, including the legendary Sound City 8028, the Elements 1084 EQ retains the distinctive equalization architecture of the original hardware.

The high-frequency section offers selectable shelving frequencies at 10, 12 and 16 kHz, with up to ±16 dB of adjustment. The low-frequency section provides shelving control at 35, 60, 110 and 220 Hz, also with ±16 dB of adjustment.

The midrange section includes six selectable centre frequencies between 360 Hz and 7.2 kHz, with a switchable High Q function for more focused equalization. Dedicated high-pass and low-pass filters provide additional control over unwanted low and high-frequency content.

By combining classic 1084 circuitry with multichannel operation and digital recall, this processor offers a practical way to incorporate traditional Neve equalization into contemporary recording and mixing systems.

Software Control, Automation and Instant Recall

One of the defining features of Neve Elements is its integration with digital production environments.

The Element Control Plugin allows engineers to operate the analogue hardware directly from their digital audio workstation. Processing settings can be stored with a DAW session, recalled when reopening a project and automated from the DAW timeline.

The plugin supports AAX, Audio Units and VST3 formats, making it compatible with a wide range of modern recording software.

For workflows that do not require a DAW, the dedicated Neve Elements App provides standalone control on Windows and macOS. Its customizable interface supports individual processor views, multiple processor windows and grouped controls for managing larger systems.

Processors of the same type can be grouped together, allowing adjustments across multiple channels. A 64-step undo system and snapshot functionality provide additional flexibility when revisiting previous settings or managing complex projects.

Each Elements unit connects to the studio network through Ethernet and uses D-sub connections for analogue audio input, output and insert routing.

An intelligent insert matrix is also included in every processor, allowing external outboard equipment to be incorporated into the signal path with digitally controlled insert positioning. This makes Elements useful not only as standalone processors but also as part of larger analogue processing chains.

Neve 8424E: A 24-Channel Console with Total Recall

Alongside Elements, Neve has unveiled the 8424E, a new version of its compact analogue recording console designed around the Elements ecosystem.

The 8424E retains the modern 80-series sound of the original 8424, including a Marinair transformer-coupled stereo mix bus derived from classic Neve consoles. It offers 24 channels, four mono groups and 48-input mixing capability, providing extensive routing and summing flexibility in a relatively compact format.

The major development is its integration with digitally controlled analogue processing. Through Neve Elements, engineers can configure the console with their preferred combination of 88R EQ, 88R Dynamics and 1084 EQ processors.

Unlike traditional consoles with fixed channel processing, this modular architecture allows the available EQ and dynamics to be selected according to the studio's needs. Additional Elements processors can be added as requirements change.

The 8424E also provides extensive reset and recall functionality, allowing engineers to store and retrieve console and processing settings between sessions.

E-Controller and Upstand Screen Expand Console Control

The 8424E incorporates two important hardware additions that connect the traditional console workflow with the Elements processing system.

The E-Controller provides direct control over connected Elements processors from the console surface. Four touch-sensitive encoders with LED halo displays allow engineers to adjust processing parameters without accessing the physical rack units or returning to their computer.

The controller also incorporates two digitally controlled VCA compressors that can operate in dual-mono or stereo configurations. Through the console's Smart Routing system, these compressors can be assigned to applications such as mix bus processing, group compression or recording-path dynamics.

The Elements Upstand Screen adds a high-resolution touchscreen display mounted above the console's main control surface. Connected processors appear on the screen, providing detailed visual feedback and graphical control of EQ and dynamics parameters.

Together, the E-Controller and Upstand Screen allow engineers to manage analogue processing directly from the listening position while retaining DAW-based automation and recall.

Upgrade Options for Existing Neve 8424 Owners

Neve has also confirmed that existing 8424 owners can upgrade their consoles to participate in the new Elements ecosystem.

Rather than replacing their existing desk, owners can add the E-Controller and Elements Upstand Screen to access the updated control architecture. Connected Elements processors can then be integrated through the console's analogue insert pathways.

This approach preserves the existing 8424 signal flow while adding digitally controlled EQ, dynamics and expanded routing possibilities.

For studios already using a Neve 8424, the upgrade offers a way to expand processing capabilities while retaining their investment in the original console.

A Flexible Approach to Analogue Studio Processing

The launch of Neve Elements and the 8424E reflects a growing emphasis on combining traditional analogue audio circuitry with the operational advantages of digital production.

With Elements, engineers can use actual Neve console circuitry while benefiting from plugin control, session recall, automation and flexible hardware configurations. The processors are equally suited to standalone rackmount installations and integrated console systems.

The 8424E extends that concept to a complete recording and mixing environment, combining a transformer-coupled analogue signal path with modular processing and centralized control.

Neve Elements and the 8424E have been officially announced today, with shipping planned for the first quarter of 2027.
